Desiccated coconut (Cocos nucifera) is used all around the world in dishes and baked good. Coming all the way from tropics the desiccated variety of coconut made it into stores, restaurants and homes.
What is Desiccated Coconut?
Nowadays, there are so many coconut products on the market that people mistake the desiccated variety of coconut with Shredded coconut and flaked coconut. This is very understandable, but the difference is between the size of their granules. Desiccated coconut is dried to the point where almost no moisture from the original coconut is left. This variety also has a very long shelf life, due to its dehydration. Furthermore it also comes in a sweet and unsweetened form.
Is your Coconut organic certified?
Yes! We are certified by SKAL and the Desiccated Coconut we use comes from Asia. There is no need to use any pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and other harmful chemicals since they are grown in naturally fertile soils, we do not need to use any artificial fertilizers on it. Our Coconut is organically certified by SKAL Biocontrol and is, therefore, EU organic certified.
How is your Desiccated Coconut made?
At Nutriboost we make sure that the coconuts we use for our desiccated coconut, are from coconut farmers in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Philippines where they are organically grown.
The harvesting techniques used by our farmers are around for generations and all done by hand. When the coconuts are mature they get carefully picked and harvested, de-husked and de-shelled. This whole process is done by hand.
The coconut meat is then crushed into a fine substance. Them, it is dried in a hot air chamber for the desiccation. This will bring down the amount of moisture of the coconut meat to a percentage lower than three per cent.
