Organic Acai Powder – also known as acai berry powder – is a fruit extract. It is made from organic acai berries. Acai grows on a palm tree that thrives in Central and South America. The Acai palms line the banks of the Amazon. Right after harvest, the berries are dried into a fine powder. Thus it retains an optimal number of its naturally occurring nutrients. What are Acai Berries?
Acai berries grow on the acai palm. The berries look similar to grapes and they are a relative of blueberries and other dark purple fruits.
A thin layer of flesh covers the acai berry and is about 10% of its total weight. The remainder of the acai exists of a large seed. Locals calling it “içá-çai” or in other words “the fruit that cries.”
Is your acai organic certified?
Yes! We are certified by SKAL and the acai berries we use for our acai powder comes from acai trees grown in Colombia. There is no need to use any pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and other harmful chemicals. Our acai powder is organically certified by SKAL Biocontrol and is, therefore, EU organic certified.
How is your acai made?
When the berries are harvested, they are taken downriver where they are washed and cleaned. These processes are carried out extremely careful. When this process is completed, the pulp is extracted. After the extraction process, the pulp of the fruit is pasteurized and it undergoes freeze-drying.
During the process of freeze-drying, the products are first frozen down and using high-pressure vacuum the frozen berries go from frozen to dry without them melting in between. This way the fruit retains most of its nutrients.
Make sure you buy 100% acai powder as some companies also sell acai powder mixed with maltodextrin. Which is basically a cheap type of sugar. Our acai has a shelf life of 12-24 months.
